Follow up Post (for the record).
I have been able to follow up the convicted Richard Clarke, age 19, 03 July 1851 in Cambridge Quarter Sessions, and eventually locate him again after his imprisonment for Transportation 7 Years.
I have record of his "early release" from Portsmouth Prison, 2 December 1854 - Licence No.2035. In part, the Archives researcher also wrote : "it was quite common for convicted criminals who were sentenced to transportation to spend the whole of their sentence here in the UK, awaiting space on a transport ship".
This is good. :-)
