Joseph Clarke was born in South Hadley, MA, in 1815. He lived in Pittsfield, NY four years, at Perry, NY ten years, and came to Covington, Wyoming Co.,NY in 1832. He has served the two as assessor. In 1837 he was married to ESTHER HARVEY, of Herkimer Co., NY. He gave liberally toward the suppression of the Rebellion. His father, Joel Clarke, was born in Massachusetts in 1774. He was of English descent. He was three times married, and he died in Covington, Wyoming Co.,NY April 15th, 1851. Mr. Clarke's grandfather was one of the earliest settlers in Wyoming Co., NY.
