I do not know if this is any help but my husband's GM came over from Ireland (Catherine Clarke) although Clarke is common so may be no connection. She was shown on 1901 Census as an inmate at Birkenhead Rock Ferry (Catholic home or poor house?) She married John Knapton in 1906. Can provide other info if you think any connection.
