From an original will, offered on ebay 11/11/03 --
Last will and testament for Josiah Gibbs of Coventry in the State of Rhode Island, Providence Plantation and dated 20th day of July 1805.
Josiah bequeaths to his true and loving wife Elizabeth ½ of his house and all the real estate he owns, along with his estate of wheat for her disposal. He also gives and bequeaths to his (4) sons the following on condition only should his wife give up her right of dower to his estate: Abel, Josiah, John and David all his real estate lying in Coventry, plus the feather bed, bindings and furniture for them to equally divide. For his (2) daughters Olive Carpenter and MARY CLARKE, Fifty dollars apiece.
Research shows Josiah Gibbs of Coventry with French & Indian War significance as Marching to the Alarm of August 1757 (Battle of Fort William Henry), as taken from Rhode Island Colonial War Serviceman 1742-1763. Josiah Gibbs from Rhode Island was a Lieutenant in Capt Stantons RI Regmts.
