Dear Christine,
I also have a Patrick(Pat) Clarey who was my grand-grandfather. He was born in Ireland in 1835 and ended up in Iowa after first having children in PA 1869 . I found him in the 1880 census living in Iowa. I was also born in Denison Iowa. He died in 1884 and I found his grave marker this past fall in Denison Iowa. I now live in Pittsburgh.
I can not find when he came to the USA. If you have found anything that could help me let me know.I can not find him in the civil war neither. I have found information about a Pat Clarey from Vermont who was in the civil war in a vermont unit. I assume that is your Pat Clary.
Robert Clarey.
