Trying to find information about Joseph William Clare know as William Clare. Born 24th Feb 1862 at Chepstow S Wales. Lived most of his life in Cardiff. Registered in the census as a mariner. However we have a carved and polished piece of Anthracite coal dated June 14th 1895 With Wm Clare Engineer Cardiff S-Wales on one side and on the reverse the is United States of America Liberty with an eagle and US crest on it.
Any information to how this was given to him and the story behind it would be highly appreciated.
Photos available
Thanks
