Hi Ellen,
I too am working on that link. I always thought that Benjamin, b. 1706, was the first Clardy in America. I found information that suggests that a Benj. Clardy came to America in 1621 with his father Francois Clitdieu. They were French Hugenots who had made their way to England because of religious persecution in France. In 1621, Clitdieu and his family were given land in VA, if they would leave England for America. My guess is that Benj. Clardy had already gone to England and anglecized his name to Clardy before his father came to England, and they all came to America together. No mention is made of Clitdieu after he came to America, so probably he changed his name too. If this is true, then there were 87 years between this coming to America, and Benj. Clardy, who was born in 1706.

Here are 3 links that my sister sent to me, you might want to check these out.
I think it would be extremely interesting if there were one or two other generations of Clardys before the original Benj. that started our family line.
Benj.Clardy 1--B. 1706 Amelia Co., VA
Benj.Clardy 11--B. 1752 Amelia Co., VA
Benj.Clardy 111--B. 1797 Pickens Dist., S.C.
Smith Clardy--B. 1837 Malvern, AR
Ned Clardy--B. 1888 Malvern, AR
Willie Clardy--B. 1922 Harrisonburg, LA
Me--B. 1951--Santa Fe, NM
Hope this helped. Maybe someone else has already found the link and will share it with us. If not, who knows?? Could be fun.
