The Clapsaddle family is quite well documented. For information on Alvah Clapsaddle see http://www.geocities.com/Heartland/6325/Clapp.html

There are 2 Clapsaddle branches that I know of in the US and they were founded at the same time. The first is Andreas Klebsattel of German Flatts, NY. Much information about him and the exploits of his children during the Revolution can be found at the Herkimer Co. Historical Society, Herkimer, NY. The second family was founded by Frantz Klesattel near Gettysburg, PA. Andreas came from Sulzfeld, Grand Duchy of Baden, Germany.

The Alvah Clapsaddle family settled near Shabbona Grove, Dekalb Co., IL as did my family and several other Clapsaddles. I am descended from Frederick Clapsaddle, son of George A., grandson of Andrew and great grandson of Andreas.

I would be more than happy to share information or to direct you to many other contacts in the family.
