Nicholas CLAPSADDLE and his family were in Davison, Genesee Co., MI on the 1860 and 1870 US CENSUSES that I researched. It was difficult to find them because of the transcriptions from the Ancestry.com website. Here they are:

I didn't pay to see the images, so until I do, I am not able to know the relation of Emma to Nicholas.
William CLAPSADDLE, of Berrien Co., MI, appears to be the son of Rudolph CLAPSADDLE of Niagara Co., NY. Rudolph is the brother of Nicholas (above). This William married Ruth that you mentioned in your message.
Hope this helps someone because I know I had quite a time finding Nicholas and his family.
