I believe your John Clapp is the son of David Clapp and Elizabeth Lawrence. David was born 2 Oct. 1789 in TN and d. 11 Nov. 1866 in Sulphur Springs, Hopkins Co., TX. He was the son of Adam Clapp and his first wife, Emma Marley. David married Elizabeth Lawrence before 1817 in Union Co., IL. She was the daughter of William Lawrence and Esther Worthington. She was born 18 Oct. 1794 and died before 1850/Red River Co., Texas. David and Elizabeth Clapp moved to the Red River area, then Miller Co., Ark. Terr., in 1817, with Elizabeth's uncles George and Adam Lawrence. They had the following children:

(2) Elizabeth Jane, b. ca 1818 (Miller Co., AR later Red River Co., TX)
(3) Lucinda, b. ca 1821 (Miller Co., AR later Red River Co., TX)
(4) Mary (Polly), b. ca 1824 (Miller Co., AR later Red River Co., TX)
(5) John, b. 28 March 1828 (Miller Co., AR later Red River Co., TX)
d. 26 Nov. 1900, Hopkins Co., TX; m. Eliza McFarland, 24 Sept. 1850

David's brother, Elisha Clapp was another early resident of NE Texas. The son of Adam Clapp and Ruth Lawrence, he was b. 1803/TN, TN, and d. ca 1851/TX. He m. Elizabeth Robbins in Miller Co. in 1822. She was the daughter of Nathanial Robbins. Happy to share information.
