I may be sending you on a wild goose chase, but I thought there might be a connection. Our ancestor ( g-g-grandfather level) had several brothers. One was named Adolphus (1774-1850) and one Benoni (1798-1880). Benoni moved to Michigan before 1850 and died there. A number of his descendants are in Michigan. Brother Adolphus stayed in NY, east of Buffalo and he had descendants in that area. Both of these Clapp brothers were sons of Aaron Clapp and Phebe Danks. We have found in working on our Clapp line that there was a great deal of moving about based on where the relatives were located. The physician part doesn't fit in with what we know. My g-g-grandfather graduated from college and became a minister. But our information is that he was the only one of Aaron's sons that continued his education. Good luck.
