Candice, Here's what I know about my great-grandfather. His name was George Anthony Clapp. He was born April 2, 1891. He married Anna Miller (though the spelling is Americanized--she immigrated as a child from Germany). They were married On Feb. 15, 1911 in Corunna, Michigan. George came from Canada. He died in the 1970's in Owosso, Michigan. I have heard two different stories about his early childhood. One source says he was orphaned and that his parents died coming to America through Canada. Young George was taken in by a family surnamed Saunders. He subsequently took on their name and I knew him as George Saunders, although he was never legally adopted. This is from the Saunders family. My mother's family tells me that his mother tried to burn him on a hot stove and neighbors took him in and he was raised by them (them being the Saunders). I don't know which story is correct. This is pretty much all I know about him. Since he was not officially adopted it is very difficult to find information. Would appreciate anything you can add.
