COORNBURY CLAPP, 1790&1800, Northeast, Dutchess Co., NY

Hello Clapp Researchers:

Can anyone identify the CORNBURY CLAPP who appears in the 1790 & 1800 Census of Northeast Township, Dutchess Co., NY?

Is he the son of John Clapp of SC and Rye, Westchester Co., NY?

Can anyone tell me about his descendents?

I suspect he may be related (father?) to the wife (TAMAR) of WILLIAM MERRITT of Rye who migrated to Northeast Township by 1790; and, by 1800 to Amenia, Dutchess Co., NY.

William and Tamar (----) Merritt's eldest son was named CORNBURY. (Most Merritt research suppose her maiden name to be "Cornbury" but there is NO evidence of any family by that name in Westchester County to whom she might belong.)

I also note the names "GILBERT" and "JESSE" were used in the Clapp family; this same couple named their second son "GILBERT" and youngest son "JESSE."

TAMAR would have been born between 1720-1730.

Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks-

Patti
