I have a family genealogy written by my Great Aunt Maud Claiborne Reno. Great Aunt Maud's father was Charles Baring Eugene Claiborne(b.shipboard between England and Australia,05.03.1830),son of Richard Berkeley(or Baring)Claiborne(b.in Richmond,VA,11.02.1798), son of Richard Claiborne(b. Sussex County,VA, in 1755). In it she states that Richard(b.1755) is the son of William Claiborne. "He was commissioned at the beginning of the war and served until the end. He was commissioned 1st lieutenant, 1st Colonial artillery,Jan. 13, 1777. He served as Brigade Major in Gen. Weedon's Regiment. Also as aide to Gen. Green and was with him @ the battle of Guilford Court House." There is a more about him and his life (his marriages, his children, his education, a lawsuit in VA). She says that Richard and William C.C. Claiborne, and Gen. Ferdinand Claiborne were cousins and that Richard went to Louisiana with William C.C. Claiborne when W.C.C. was appointed Gov. of LA by Thomas Jefferson. There he served as judge in the federal court and later clerk of the US court.
