Tracing the ancestry of Mary Elizabeth Logan

I have lately started trying to trace my late mother-in-law's ancestors. She was quite interested in family history and often talked about it, but unfortunately her records were lost when she died. I do remember her talking with fascination about a very early American/English forefather whose's first name was William. When she and her husband built a fine house, they named it "Sweet Hall" in his honor/memory. I wonder if this man was William Claiborne? She came from Nevada in Vernon County, Missouri (born Aug. 4, 1911). Her father was Loren George Logan and her mother was Mary Elizabeth Thorpe. If anyone can tell me anything about a possible connection between either of her parents and William Claiborne, I would be truly grateful.
