Need Help with Underground Railroad
I'm gathering information about the Underground Railroad in West Virginia. Can anyone help supply any relevant information, including names of people and/or places rumored to be connected with the Underground Railroad in WV?
The people who operated stations of the UGRR in this state would not have talked or written about it at the time. West Virginia was part of Virginia until June 20, 1863, so these people were operating within the borders of a slave state. They risked their lives.
Please let me know if you have any information, including old family stories, about the Underground Railroad in West Virginia. The national UGRR museum will be built soon in Cincinnati, Ohio, and it is up to West Virginians and their descendants to tell the story of the role our state played.
