The seach for graves of Confederate soldiers is slow, frustrating, and usually fruitless, for the reasons Bill has already stated. In the case of your ancestor who died during a retreat from Corinth, however, you have more information than is usually available and the circumstances give cause for a glimmer of hope. Not much hope, mind you, but its worth looking.
Considering the circumstances, it sounds like your ancestor was either wounded, or became sick on the march. It is possible that he was left in the town because he was no longer able to travel, and died later, after the Confederate army left the area.It is just possible that he was cared for by townspeople and buried in the local cemetery. That would be a real stroke of luck.Other scenarios are more likely, and the ones I can think of would mostly result in burial in an unmarked grave. So while I think its worth a look, you shouldn't get your hopes up.
