Bob...It's too bad you have such a low opinion of "Sons" groups. I realize many of them DO only provide lip service when it comes to helping non-members, however, many do Really help others. Our camp in Stillwater OK has obtained documentation for 7 veterans and ordered and placed stones at their unmarked graves. We have documentation on seven others and are going through the process of ordering the stones. This makes 14 stones for the approximately 50 unmarked CW vets graves in our county area. Our biggest limitation on ordering stones is budget. With only about $300 per year in the camp coffers (other than dues which are passed along to the national organization) this severely limits the number of stones we can place each year. Luckily we have been able to negotiate a lower fee (in some cases NO fee) with some cemetery sextons.
Many of these "Sons" groups actively gather information on unmarked graves and go through the process to mark the graves. We often provide a memorial service, also.
