My ancestor, Lewis Riley, was in Co. I, 6th MO Cav (Union). He died in a St. Louis, MO, hospital in 1863 of "chronic diarrhea" or dysentery. He was buried at Jefferson Barracks, which is in or near St. Louis, MO., even though he resided in a county futher away. Jefferson Barracks was established as a National Cemetery in 1866. There was a National Cemetery established in Nashville, TN, in 1866. That is where I would look for your ancestor first.
