The Division fought in the Department of Texas, Askansas, and Louisiana.
Point of interest: Texas had a shortage of animal feed and dismounted many Calvary units. So there are four types of armed units Infantry, Artillery, Calvary, and Mounted Rifles.
The last was often Dismounted. So the 16th Infantry and 16th Dismounted Calvary were both in 1st brigade. The 17th and 18th Infantry were in the 3rd Brigade, and the 17th and 18th dismounted were captured at Arkansas Post and served later in the East with Johnson;s Army of Tennessee.
