I don't know what the fellow at NARA looked at. He only sent me the items I mentioned. Had I not seen my Andrew Willard in list of MASS Naval officers I would not have known the ship name on which he served. So, basically I did not learn anything new from NARA. I was prepared to pay NARA the big bucks but then I saw where they said I could not request Navy service via the standard forms but rather had to contact NARA directly. So this was all done via email without charge. Guess I got exactly what I paid for.
I emailed the fellow back afterwards asking about service records but he never replied.
Maybe I could try calling them. ????
I appreciate your help. Do you have experience at D.C. NARA? If I went there in person [about a 6 hr drive one way] would I be able to have access to the records you mentioned? And are they navagible for a newbie?
NARA reply seemed to indicate that they do not have any compiled records for NAVY like they do for army.
Good thing I came back to site or I would not have known about your reply. The alert feature has been broken awhile. They know about it and said they are working on it. Without the alerts working it is very hard to keep revisiting sites to check on replies. Just so you know I wasn't ignoring you.
Tanks a bunch.
