Thanks Patti, we must be cousins with Joseph may Sr as our common ancestor.
We have 2 different William Mays from Pike Co, one did join the 16th MS Inf Regiment, he was not my William May. The other William May was age 19 when discharged for illness at Cornith early in the formation of the 16 MS and early in the war. He returned to Pike Co amd married and moved to Texas and raised a large family and died at Milam Co TX.
My William May was a Doctor and shows graduation in the Univ of Louisiana Records in 1852. I have copies of his probate at Lawrence Co MS in 1867. His brother Jared May was in the 16th MS Inf and was wounded at Cross Keys and was in the 16th Co E at the end of the war and lived to 1907 (I think was the year he died).
I would love to see the roster information you speak about William May was killed at Cross Keys, it was a large battle, and maybe another regiment may have had a William May killed that day, but it was not our William May, who died in 1867. I also have the records of the 16th MS Co E and who was killed or wounded, where and when.
You may email me at firstname.lastname@example.org, we can look at this with closer detail, if you wish. I do not have much information on Joseph B May Sr and his ARW info? maybe you can help me with that? i would really like to know more on the earlier generations and their locations in Virginia?
