1st Alabama Cavalry, Union, Company H (new)

To whom it may concern:

John Potter, my great grandfather, served in Company H (new), 1st Alabama Cavalry, Union, during the Civil War.

Why was Company "H" stationed in Blountsville, Alabama? The "Records of Events" are blank for July and August 1865.
