Hello John.
I know this is an old post but family history has it that a
Gr-father was on a firing squad sometime during the Cival War. William Edgar Ratcliff, CSA, Co.E 24 Miss Cav
(CSA tombstone)
My work hit a wall when I could not locate his enlistment when searching for it in 2002, for a DAR award for my father, a Vetran of Korea. Furtunatly I found another, more-direct line for my dad's award.
Back to W.E.R., he was supposed to have been assinged to a firing squad, because his" at the time, father-in-law" was aquesed of something waranting it, ( desertion ?)
W.E.R marrired at least two times, once to Martha Jane Smith 4-29-1868 and Clorinda Davis 2-17-1887. His father was John B. Ratcliff. I have not seen his CSA marker, and I can find no enlistment information for either.
J.B.R. married Abigail Lofton 11-10-1846. All marriages are indexed in Franklin County Miss.
Any information is appreciated. I just wonder which father-in-law was shot......?
Thanks.
