William W Walker born in Ireland about 1820

I am looking for William W Walker who may have been in war but became missing after his son was born in 1861. They lived in Anderson county near Palestine, Texas. This is a very common name as there were 32 listed from Texas. Any help very much appreciated. He was married to Elizabeth Templeton Walker. What has been said and handed down through the family is that he and a lot of other men just disappeared from the area at the same time. Does anyone know where I can locate records?
