Hi Cathy

You might want to make a slight change into where you are looking.

The 5th US Infantry was a federal unit not a state unit-part of the standing US Army.

There is information on the net for the 5th US Infantry that may help you but researching a regular army man is a lot different that if he served in a state unit.
