Wiiliam N. Meeks at the age of 21 joined for duty and enrolled on March 21, 1862,as a private in Captain G. R. Freeman's Company - Regiment Texas Lancers*. He was mustered in on April 24, 1862 at Bell County for 3 years or war. On Sept/Oct 1863 roll it notes he is absent on detail with Pratt's Battery as of October 12, 1863.

* This company subsequently became company "D" 21st Texas Cavalry.
