BULL RUN HOSPITAL & ANDERSONVILLE RECORDS
I would deeply appreciateit if anyone who has informed knowledge could answer two seperate questions regarding records.
A) My gg-grandfather, Christian Arnheiter, was injured in the Second Battle of Bull Run. He served with the NJ Volunteers from Aug. 19, 1861 until July 17, 1865 in Companies C and G of the 5th Regiment and Co. F of the 7th Regiment. He was shot at Bull Run some time between Aug. 1861 and his discharge from an Army hospital in Philadelphia on Oct. 14, 1862, at which point he re-entered the war. At NARA in Washington,D.C., I copied the entireoriginal file which included a brief doctor's report pertaining to a pension issue.
He remained partially disabled as the bullet was never removed. While I've found neither a death record nor interment (believed to be in Jersey City), I tend to think he may have lived less than ten years beyond the war's end. Therefore, I would like to learn more about his injury.
Do the solders' records from the individual army hospitals exist and, if so, how are they accessible?
B) Joseph Ulsimer, enlisted in NY City on May 10, 1861 and served in Companies C, D and E as a private. He was wounded and captured on May 10, 1864. He was sent to and survived Andersonville.
While unerstanding that conditions at Andersonville were horrific, were any records kept on individual prisoners and and can these be obtained?
Thank you for your time and attention to these inquiries.
