I have used that book a long time ago-before Joe Johnson was in my sights and even before goggle books (didn't think to look there although I use it a lot).
Can't imagine why he would enlist in what was still a shooting war. I don't know if it was common knowledge at the time that the 15th would be in service into 1866.
He had married only four months earlier-didn't like married life?
