Actually Company 76 is likely correct. The Veterans Reserve Corps (originally the Invalid Reserve Corps) was initially organized into two battalions, the First Battalion was for those whose injury or disability was slight, and the Second Battalion for those whose disability was of a more serious nature. The companies in these two battalions were not designated by letter, due to the shear number of companies. My GGGGrandfather's records clearly show that he was in the 152nd Company of the 2nd Battalion. Each of the 24 regiments was originally composed of 6 companies from the 1st Battalion and 4 companies from the 2nd Battalion, although this was not strictly adhered to late in the war.
