Missing Death Record JW Ratliff

The only inkling that I have of my g-grandfathers death is sourced by this notation:
Alabama, Confederate Pension and Service Records by Ancestry.com
List of Confederate Pensioners of Jefferson County, Ala
Who have died since last report, Names to be dropped from Roll
Second Class
#14205 J.W. Ratliff Died Oct 1/12
I know that he lived most of his life in Jefferson Co and was part of the 19th Infantry Co C.
He also lived later in life around the Tishomingo Co Ms area.
I have always had good luck with Alabama death records but very poor luck with Miss’s.
Question is :
1.        Did he die in Jefferson Co or just apply for pension there or is he on this list because he enlisted there? I have his pension application but it is from Tishomingo.
2.       I have tried all internet sites that list these death records, cemetery records and have requested a certificate from Tishomingo court house.
3.       Any opinions?
