Thanks Alice - just what I was after. Must admit I was a bit confused as to what the procedure is for this with NARA - i.e. the correct form. Anyhow you've answered that - a letter it is and start with T1099.
Not sure what to make of this but a letter the brother John wrote to his parents appears to have a reference to two P. F. O'Neils (this would be Patrick and Peter) and it looks like there's a connection with the Steamer Port Royal - did they all enlist at the same time? Take a look - would appreciate your thoughts - on the right hand side reading up.
