Thank you so much Michael,but this is not Riley's record of service. I have learned more about my friend's family member.
He is Daniel Riley May, not E. Riley May.
I have searched the Civil War websites, but there is no mention of him.

She was b. 1840 in Orange Co., NC, d. 1917 in Alamance Co., NC. They were in the 1860 census of Alamance Co., NC, where he was a farmer with real estate valued at $300 & personal property valued at $100. He served with the CSA during the Civil War in Co. H, 1st NC Infantry.
Their children were:
