Union Railroads Gen McCollum
Found a newspaper article ca 1885 "A War Reminiscence" or How an Army Corps Was Transferred in Short Order. It had to do with moving Hooker's Corp (by railroad) from the Valley of Virginia to Tennessee. In setting things in motion,a Mr. Whiton said "Where is Gen. McCollum?".That indicated that at the time, Gen. McCollum was in charge of either the Railroads or the movement of troops.
I have tried wikipedia and other on line sources for Civil War Generals, but find no mention of him. When they sent six riders around D.C. to look for the Gereral, the storyteller said that Gen. McCollum was a peculiar man that could be easily identified by description.
Has anyone heard of Gen. McCollum???
