Thanks so much for the info!I double checked and the records do say "enlisted." In my research, I also came across information (inDunbar Rowland’s 1908 book, “Military History of Mississippi, 1803-1898,”) that Company B — known as the Southern Revengers, Southern Rejectors of Old Abe, and Abe’s Rejectors — was organized Dec. 6, 1861 in Pontotoc County but “enlisted at New Orleans, January 14, 1862, and at Verona, April 15, 1862.”
So, I suppose he WAS in New Orleans and joined up there. Aha! Another piece to the puzzle.
