DeWitt C. Davis, 4th Reg, Alabama Volunteer Militia
We have always heard that my ancestor Dewitt Clinton Davis served in the War Between the States, but do not have any proof. He never applied for a pension that we have been able to find - he did not die until 1921.But if he was on the Confederate side, there would be no pension, correct?
Our records indicate that he was from Alabama, and at the following link there is a Dewitt C. Davis in the Confederacy, who enlisted in Alabama.

I don't think that is going to take you directly to the info about Dewitt Davis - enter Dewitt in the first name box, Davis in the last name box and you will see what I am talking about.
What I want to know is - what information is there I can seek that will maybe tell me that this is "my" Dewitt C. Davis?Any help at all is appreciated!!!
