Thanks.I will see if I can find more.The information I have on that comes from a grandson of Benjamin Smith who wrote the family history about 1940.Ben Hogue(the author of the history) was about 13 years old when his grandfather died and Ben lived until 1961.There is what Ben Hogue says about his grandfather.
"Owned and operated farms, grist and saw mill, contractor and builder.
He was too old for combat service in the Civil War, but volunteered and served as a prison guard at Andersonville, GA. Confederate Prison for 17 months during the latter part of the War and until Lee's surrender."
However, I have found a few other details that we have not been able to verify either.
