Thank you very much for this information. I hope my hunch is right and he is one of the men listed.
I have another person in question, another third-great grandfather of mine that disappeared between the 1860 and 1870 census. His baptism name was Juan Batista Chaves[z].In the marriages records for him and most of his siblings, his parents were listed as Antonio Chaves and Barbara Baca.I am under the assumption Juan Chavez also enlisted (he was first cousin to Manuel Antonio Chavez, whose name appears in many NM Civil War references), an I wonder if he might be the one referred to as Juan Baca y Chavez, Compnay D.
Were the enlistment paperwork for the New Mexicans thorough enough to list parent's names, wives, and/or next of kin?Did they list what township they were of?
Being in Arizona, how do I get a copy of such things?
