Milton Grant Petersburg, VA
A Milton GRANT enlisted at Petersburg, Virginia, September 30, 1861 in the Confederate Army,41st Reg't Virginia Infantry, 2nd Co. G, serving as a Private. However, there are two "Milton Grant" in the 1860 Census, one who is 37 years old, birthplace VA, livng in W-WD (West Ward) Petersburg, and living with a 47 year old women named Rebecca. This Milton mustered in on October 31.
Most of his military records list him as absent or "without leave," however, the records indicate he was sick in Petersburg Hospital with "debilitas," dyspepsia, inflammation of the eye, or fever.I am pretty sure he saw no battle or active duty. Some of his complications seem to match up with my relative, Milton Powell Grant.
However, after look at the 1860 Cenus, there appears TWO
Milton Grants.I am 100% positie that the one who is 3 to 4 years older, living next to his father, Archibald Grant
in Henry County is our Milton, which means he was not in the war, or at least in the hospital and Petersburg.
Does any one have any informaiton on Milton Grant who was in the Civil War at Petersburg?Thank you.
