Is there someone smart about the Prisoners at Elmira ? I need assistance Please
I am searching for information about my 4th Grandpa Brice Avery Ray born approximatly 1834 in NC. Served in the 53rd NC Regiment as a Private in Company F.
I was told that Brice desereted at least twice, and was sent back in to fight both times, then was captured and sent to Elmira Prison camp where he died of Diahria.
I am trying to verify this information and can't seem to do it on my own. Civil War Soldiers and Sailors has a Brice Ray known as Brace Ray in the 53red NC Regiment Infantry Company F film # M230 roll # 32 Then there is listed a Bruce A Ray known as Brace Ray 53red NC Regiment Infantry Company F film # M230 roll # 32 . I do find Bruce A Ray buried at Woodlawn National Cemetery in Chemung County, NY he died 3-27-1865, there is no birth.
Online information says that there is Elmira Prisoner Records that are available to view, but i can't navigate to where i need to be in order to see what i need to see.. I am trying to prove that the Bruce A Ray in Woodlawn Cemetery is my Brice Avery Ray from North Carolina.. I would really like to further my tree, but i am at a loss with my Mr Brice Ray, and i desperatly need assistance. Thank you and God Bless Rhonda
