The following entry appears on page 59 in LEE'S COLONELS: A BIOGRAPHICAL REGISTER OF THE FIELD OFFICERS OF THE ARMY OF NORTHERN VIRGINIA, by Robert K. Krick: "BRIDGFORD, DAVID B.Son of a British officer who became Lt. Gov. of Upper Canada.Ship's broker and commission merchant in New York City before and after the war.Capt., Co. B, 1st Va. Bn. Regulars ('Irish Bn.'), May 17, 1861.Major – Oct. 11, 1862.Detached as Provost Marshal of Second Corps then of entire Army of Northern Va. from the fall of 1862 onward.Bridgford was involved in a Cuban revolution post-war.d. in New York City 'many years ago' before 1904.An officer of the 1st Va. Bn. wrote that Bridgford had 'the gift of attracting the notice of superior officers, but...did not measure up....'"
Hope this helps.
