Questions on Quantrill's raiders in Kentucky.
Further digging into this subject has led me to more questions. George "Bud" W. Wiggington was supposedly with Quantrill at Wakefield; yet surrendered later at New Castle, which is in Henry County. This makes me question an old story I heard when I was 10 - 12.Supposedly, Confederate men, seperated from their unit, were in the vicinity of Pleasureville, Ky (also Henry County) and lost a 16 year old to civilian fire.Could there be any connection?
As to remainder of Qunatrill's men who surrendered at Samuel's Depot, Nelson County, Ky. could the Capt. Young U.S. Army have beenRobert B. Young, Captain of Co. B, 54th Kentucky Mounted Infantry?"B" Company was heavily recruited from Henry Co., and mustered at New Castle.
Living near Wakefield, and growing up in Henry County, brings this all close to home for me.
