I have no documentation to verify this but, the Joseph Cissna who was born in 1789 and died in Spencer Co, Indiana in 1873 states on both his 1850 and 1860 census records that he was born in Michigan. From researching the greater Cessna/Cissna family lines I know that Joseph Cissna b. abt 1747 in Shippensburg, Cumberland, Pennsylvania died in Detroit, Michigan in 1803. There has been very little research on him from what I could find, except that he married a Rebecca. He was the son of John Cessna b. 1692 Ireland d. 1796 in Shippensburg, PA.
Joseph Cissna served in the revolutionary war as a Capt. int he 2nd Battalion of the Washington County Militia see the PA Archives Series 6, vol II chapter on Second Battalion Washington County Militia. And at the conclusion of the War moved to Detroit, Michigan where he died. It is a strong possibility that the three brothers who went to Spencer Co, Indiana were his sons. Further research in the Detroit, Michigan area may lead you to a will or probate documents that could verify this for you.
Best of luck on your research.
