Lisa, I note your request for help with verifying names, dates and places of the Cissna family. My line still spells the name Cessna (this was the way Jean (John) Cessna spelled his name in his will). My relationship to him is through his son John, Sr of Shippensburg/French & Indian War era; his son John, Jr later of Coleraine Twp in Bedford County located at Rainsburg, PA; his son John who lived on the family 300 acre farm purchased by his father; his son William who remained on the family farm; his son William who remained on the family farm; his son William (my great-grandfather) whose daughter Alma was my grandmother. The Cessna family lived on the same piece of land for over 200 years.
I have some information to add to your posted informtion. In #1, Jean Cessna (pronounced"sis nee") left France about 1785.I do not know if he went to England or to Holland yet, but he did join the Duke DuChamborg as an officer at the Battle of the Boyne in 1690.He stayed on after the battle and married Priscilla Foulk in Ireland. It appears 1-3 of his first sons were born in Ireland. They are said to have emigrated here in 1719 and lived in Lancaster (now York and Cumberland Counties) . I have copies of his will and inventory/settlement of his estate. His wife Priscilla had remarried a Mr. Elliot within 8 years.A number of Jean & Priscilla's sons had moved into what is now the Shippensburg area of PA in the early 1750's.I have copies of some surveys and warrants issued to him by the Penn family. This John was married to a Mary(maiden name unknown) .John III was married to Sarah RoseI have the names of all of John II's children.I knew that John II had been captured by the Indians (I visited the site last Fall with a local historian and author from Shippensburg who specializes in early settlers). But had not found any reference to either John II or his son Joseph spending five years amongst the indians. This was not unusual at the time, but I have not found any reference to this with the Cessna's.Please share with me where you found this bit of info as I would like to follow up on this aspect.Your Stephen was a brother to my John III.Do you have access to the 1905 version of the House of Cessna? This gives a lot of generational history (some of it inaccurate) but at least it gets you going in the right direction!I have lots more Cessna research to share if you would like to contact me.
