William Churm was born in 1821 in Wolverhampton, Staffordshire, England.
It is recorded that he married Susannah Hanley (whose father may have been Francis Hanley) 06/06/1859 in Lancashire, England in 1859, and they had the following children, all being born at Wolverhampton, Staffordshire:
1. George Churm, born 1864
2. John Churm, born 1869
3. Susannah Ann Churm (listed in the 1881 census as Anne Churm), born 1871
4. Mary Churm, born 1874 (must have died young as does not appear in the 1881 census)
5. Maria Churm, born 1876
6. Henry Churm, born 1877 (also must have died young - not in census)
7. Charles Churm, born 1878
8. Frank Churm, born 1882
Charles Henry Churm, the 7th child listed above, moved to Scotland at some point (in 1901 he is living in Stirling, then in 1902 in Greenock West; seems to have stayed in Greenock) and married Jessie Mackay Cartlidge in 1915, having already had 3 children with her.
I have not been able to find any info on his father William Churm, born 1821. It is possible that the marriage to Susannah Hanley detailed above was his 2nd, as he was 39 at the time. I have looked up on the IGI and found that a William Churm born at the same place and in the same year married an Ann Townsend in 1843, and had four children with her, the last being born in 1849. Perhaps this Ann died and he remarried to Susannah? I know this is speculation, but was Churm a common name in this area?
Anyone who has any info - I would be very appreciative.
All the best and Merry Christmas,
