The document Inhabitants of Buckfastleigh 1698 in Harleian Collection 6832 item23
was the subject of an article by Elizabeth Knowling in 1984 and she has passed me the following information
John Churchard aged 30
Margarett his wife aged 30
Thomas son aged 6
There is a marriage of John Churchwood to Margarett Holman in Staverton in 1687 followed by the birth of John Churchwood in1689 he was buried at Buckfastleigh in 1694. This poses a number of questions as there are no earlier Churchwards in Staverton registers though I have not checked the Burials.
There are Churchwards mentioned in the Devon hearth Tax 1674 for Blackawton,Ipplepen and Torbryan has anyone researched these parish registers??
