sally, amer.roots go back to JOsiah churchill/eliza Foote(married 1638 in wethersfield,Ct.)dau.,Sarah Churchill(1657) married william wickham on Nov 16,1673,had dau.Elizabeth who married thomas Morley(b1684),had dau. Eliza(1715)who married benjamin Loomis on Mar 1 1734.u will find all this on "www.familysearch.org",along with loomis pedigree which goes back several centuries,England.I've spent yr.web surfing churchill lines, being dir dec.of Josiah/Eliz. Foote. No problem going forward (well little problem because of webb errors, omissions and contradictions)but, going backwards in time is perplexing because of lack of documented info. Webb indicates ties to Marlboroughs (dukes),Winston,Diana Spencer,Jennie Jerome and some intriguing history. BUT,BUT,BUT,ALL entries are challenged for lack of proof, and contradictions abound. For starters Josiah & John Churchill arrived in America abt same time,Josiah among ist settlers of W/field,John(married to Hannah Pontus)in Ply.,mass. Some insist John & Josiah are brothers (their descendants carry many same given names). Some insist no documents or proof exists to indicate so.Yet,there are many computer entries that do perceive John and Josiah as brothers and follow back into time, making definite connections to Winston et al,including the linkage of Arabella Churchill to King James II and common-law parentage of several children. In chkn, names of John/Josiah mother given as Sarah (unknown),Sara May & Sarah Watson. Many long time researchers say nobody has ever produced a document to suggest those linkages actually exist and going back even further produces more contradictions and fantacies. However,it's fun tryin. Im not researching the Loomis line but couldn't help noticing comp.traces well back to 1400's(england).I'm very interested because maybe there are connections not only to Josiah but to John & Hannah.also, its interesting to note that Loomis/Foote roots can be traced back (if comp.correct)to both same spots in Eng. and w/field,ct.(another story) Could not find yr gnf. G.Winston Loomis (but,it should be there)however, found entries of Julia Augusta Churchill with some confusion. ist,"rootsweb.com" shows Alanson Covell Churchill (b.1813,Mayfield.n.y.)married Lucy Cornwell(b1813). it shows Alanson's pedigree:f.Roswell/Abigail Covell: f.Amos(1743)/Lydia Coles:f.Nathaniel(1731)/rebecca Griswold(1707):f.nathaniel(1677)/Mary Hurlbut(1679):f.Joseph(1649)/Mary Catlin (or Mary Towsey): f. Josiah(1616)/Eliza Foote(1616. Josiah's father is REPUTED TO BE jOHN,(mother, either sarah (unknown),SARAH MAY, OR, sarah watson, depending on which web site is reporting. Rootsweb does not list dau. for Alanson/Lucy but, "www.familysearch.org" does, listing "julia Augusta Churchill" born 1838, in "GERMANY". fATHER IS LIsted as alanson "CORELL" churchill(b.ABT 1812, GERMANY); mother as Lucy Cornwell(b.abt 1816,GERMANY).iM no historian, but, pssbly, because america & germany were politically involved in war of 1812 lucy's/alanson's parents were part of govt??? I indicated Alanson's pedigree, now for suprise. Seemingly,Lucy Cornwell, came from same stock. "rootsweb.com" lists lucy's father as Isaac Cornwell and mother as Lucy CHURCHILL. lucy's churchill's father is listed as AMOS CHURCHILL & LYDIA COLES --the GRANDPARENTS of ALANSON and parents of ROSWELL. i hav not found time to compare dates, etc.to see if it works out, but, from exp. know entries are sometimes woefully inaccurate. So, if u hav time to chk, plse let me know what you disc.also apprec.any info u hav to giv me insight on my res. dwc.
