I should check this forum more often! I'm descended from Joseph Dill Churchill of Izard Co., Arkansas. Here's the family information as it has come down to me:
Joseph Dill Churchill, s/o William Churchill and Jane Dill, was born 29 July 1797 in NJ. This family moved west, lived in Ohio for several years, and then moved on to Michigan. (I don't know WHERE in Michigan, though.)
At age 23, Joseph came to Pineville, Arkansas (on business of some kind, the story goes). There he met Lucretia Bland Bocock, b. 28 Oct. 1803. She had been recently widowed -- her husband's name was Bocock, and Bland was her maiden name. I believe she was born in VA. (?)
Joseph and Lucretia married 28 March 1827. Their children were as follows:
John Silas Churchill, m. Susan Jane Taylor
James Jeffrey Churchill, m. Martha Ann Scott
Mary Caroline Churchill, m. Hartley Stephens
Lavina (or Leuvina) Churchill, m. Meredith Crawford McAlister
Jane Churchill, unmarried
Lucy Ann Churchill, m. Nathan J. Langston
William Walker Churchill, m. Delphene Maranda McAlister [these are my g-grandparents, and oddly enough, Delphene Maranda is the daughter of Meredith Crawford McAlister, above, by his first wife, Eliza Farris -- makes for interesting relationships later on!]
Dempsy Churchill, unmarried
[Name Unknown] Churchill, died in infancy
Joseph Ambrose Churchill, m. Nancy Ann Duvall
Two of these children, William Walker and Joseph Ambrose, came to Parker Co., TX, with their wives in 1874.
I want to find out the names of Joseph's brothers and sisters who remained in Michigan. Does anyone have this information? By the way, I also have it that Joseph descended from Josiah Churchill of Wethersfield, Conn., and Elizabeth Foote, but I have never seen the documents to prove it. I'd be happy to correspond with other Churchill cousins -- email me!
