Bill, Laura, et al., Google: (Innholders Company + London + 1660) and you'll see about the 3rd entry, a paper on the Livery companies that "planted" Ulster, among them Cook's and Innholders. The paper gives a whole explanation that these were a combination of fraternal and guild organizations. Cook's and Innholders were associated with "mercers"--general for "merchant?"--am not a medievalist. They were also decidedly religious orders. When I "Googled" Cook's, the Dixon family came up. My friend, W. G. Churchill came from Dixon TN--the descendant of Wm. of Va. Also the Berkshire Family Society has in its holdings the apprenticeship listings for Cook's for the period. A new book I'm reading, The Rise and fall of the British Empire, says that most of the colonists came from London whose population had greatly increased with yeomen and artisans who had become somewhat itinerant regardless.
