I am looking for info on Andrew Churchill, son of John -who died prior to March 1898 (and on any other name found herein). I believe he lived in Newfoundland and had a brother named George. As my grandfather, Walter George Churchill (1887-196), had a father named George (fisherman from St. Johns who died in 1920's) who had one brother, I am pursuing the possibility that Andrew was his brother. Andrew's father John was son of Edward (farmer Portugal Cove, St. Johns Nfld), and John had 3 brothers and one sister: Elijah, Alfred, John, Peter, and Jane Somerton. Johns's father was Edward. My grandfather was Walter George Churchill from St. Johns Nfld. Born at Trinity Bay around 1887. Walter's father was George (fisherman in St.Johns Nfl) with English connections who died in 1920's. George had one brother name unknown. Walter's mother was Bridget with Irish connections and died around 1918 place unknown. Walter left Nfld around 1908 and married in NY. Walter died in 1964 in Wildwood NJ. George and Bridget had Walter George, Florence Elizabeth Isdell, and Miriam O'Neill at St Johns Nfld. I cannot get past George, or Bridget (not knowing her maiden name). I do know there is a Gibbs connection to George or Bridget, but that may be through a step parent. As John died prior to 1898 when Edward was making his will, I wonder if John's wife remarried a Gibbs? I believe the connection is to the Hon Michael P Gibbs Family who was a lawyer and Mayor of St. Johns Newfld in 1904. Mr. Gibb’s parents were John Gibbs (cooper?) and Marguerite Murray. Other siblings included: Thomas, Tobias, Michael, John, Catherine, Mary, Augustine, a Catholic Priest who died in Dublin, and several others. I was told these people were cousins to Mariam Churchill O'Neill. As I said earlier, it may be through step-parenthood, but is a lead. I prefer a response through Genforum. However, if you choose my personal address, please check that your response gets through, and keep trying if it doesn’t, as sometimes there is a full mailbox. Thank you. Please let me know if we can assist one another. Good luck with your research. J Churchill Notify Administrator about this message?
